Golf Yoga
Golf is as much about mental focus as it is about physical performance. We’ve all been told that Golf is 90% mental, 10% physical, but what does that really mean?
Golf-specific yoga is beneficial to both areas because it can help you train the mind and help you build a physic that can improve your game significantly.
The mental game of golf demands focus and attention. Golfers playing their best rounds talk about being “In the Zone” and “Playing One Shot at a Time” Staying in the present is key to optimal performance in the game of golf.
This optimal mental state can be difficult to attain with mind chatter. Chatter includes self-judgment about how you will play, past poor shots, or what may happen on the next hole or the back-nine. All this chatter, negative or conscious thoughts, will distract you from what is most important, the shot you are about to hit.
Yoga works on this chatter issue by teaching the mind to become a witness to the thoughts and by then letting them go to enhance your game by allowing you to relax, stay in the present and let your body do what it already knows how to do. Execute the shot at hand.
The physical part of golf demands fluidity, flexibility, balance and strength. Yoga postures work simultaneously on all these areas working directly on hip openers, lower back, torso rotations, core strength, posture and breathing. Yoga will help you with the flexibility and focus demanded on the first hole as well as the strength and endurance required to maintain the critical posture positions necessary to successfully execute shots coming down the 18th hole.
If you have taken numerous lessons focused on mechanics, spent hours practicing your long and short game but still seem stuck at your current handicap, Golf specific Yoga can help.
Uniting an uncluttered mind with a body ready for physical performance is a winning combination that will bring your game to the next level.
